KJH Dance Team Tryouts
Tryouts for the KJH Dance Team will be held March 29th - April 15th. There will be two clinics for the purpose of learning tryout choreography and skills, three sessions for individual interviews/skills assessments and open practice time, and then the actual tryout.
Please wear appropriate clothing to all clinics that allows you to move and stretch. You’ll need to wear black shorts with either a white or black top for the actual tryout, and shoes at all times (either dance shoes or tennis shoes).
On the first day of clinics, you must return the Acknowledgement of Warning and the Emergency Release Form in order to participate.

Commitments
The KJH Dance Team’s focus is performing at a variety of KJH home basketball games (both boys and girls, A and B teams) during the winter season and improving a range dance skills in preparation for performance at the high school level. The junior high team also performs at a few other events (Pep rallies, Kings recitals, KHS basketball games, Night of Knights, etc.). The team’s season begins in the summer months, practicing 3-4 hours a week on conditioning and technique. Near the beginning of school, we hold a “Summer Intensive” for the purpose of learning choreography. September through March, we practice 1 to 2 days after school, as well as Sunday evenings, as we are able to secure a gym at that time and often work with the KHS Dance Team. The season concludes in late March.
Although the KJH Dance Team is very much a part of, and supported by, the Athletic Department, we are a very new team and do not yet receive funding through the Kings School District or KHS Athletic Boosters. Therefore, at this point, many of our expenses are still covered by individual team members and team fundraisers. Team members pay a portion of the total expenses, including costuming, choreography, practice attire, spirit wear, props, technique class, and the coach’s salary. The estimate for individual out-of-pocket expenses for the entire year for KJH Team members is currently $275 - $325, but an increase in school funding could lower these figures. A $100.00 deposit will be due upon being selected for the team, but all other expenses will be spread out over several months. Please contact Coach Deborah Smith with any question.
