The Kings High School Dance Team is in its fifth season now consisting of both a Varsity and JV squad.
Coach Deborah Smith strives to meet individual dance skills while stressing the importance of responsibility and respect for one another. The dancers work to build a bond, a "sisterhood" that shows in the way they perform as a team.
The dancers spend over 500 hours together each season, including many social events, camps, performances, youth clinics, practices, and community outreach projects. The girls can be seen performing at men's and women's home basketball games for KHS, as well as pep assemblies, competitions, charity events, recitals, and arts festivals.
As a result of the success of the high school program, a Kings Junior High Team has been established, doubling the number of dancers in the Kings program 7th - 12th grade.

For the second year, the KHS Dance Team officers attended a National Dance Alliance camp this summer. The six girls, along with Coach Smith, traveled to Valparaiso University in northern Indiana where they learned choreography and competed for four days.
This year's officers include: Dani Green (Captain), Alison Feucht (1st Lieutenant), Courtney Walls (2nd Lieutenant), Rachel Magary (3rd Lieutenant), Alyssa Hoffman (4th Lieutenant), and Montana Mosby (4th Lieutenant).
The officers took first place in the varsity division of the "Team Dance Competition," the ultimate award at the NDA camp. They were also awarded third place in the "Team Leader" competition, which included an evaluation of dance skill as well as leadership abilities. In addition, the six won many individual awards throughout the week, including three girls being nominated for the "All American Team": Dani, Alison, and Rachel. All three were ultimately selected for this honor and are eligible to participate in a performance trip to Rome, Italy. Rachel, Alyssa, and Courtney received individual ribbons recognizing their dance technique. Alison won the "Top Gun Kick" award for the entire camp and a ribbon for showmanshp, Montana received the ribbon for showmanship as well, and all came home ready to lead the team in this new season!
Congratulations girls on your success!

2009-2010 Officer Camp
Wow! I wanted to share the incredible success of your KHS Dance Team officers at the National Dance Alliance camp they attended in July. The five girls (and myself) traveled six hours to Northern Illinois University where they learned choreography and competed for four days.
The officers include: Meaghan Smith (Captain), Christie Horan (1st Lieutenant), Stacy Holdeman (2nd Lieutenant), Alison Feucht (2nd Lieutenant), and Dani Green (3rd Lieutenant).
The officers took first place in the "Team Dance Competition," the ultimate award at the NDA camp. They were also awarded the "Team Spirit" award, voted on by the other teams at camp, for their friendliness and talent.
In addition, the five won many individual awards throughout the week, including all five girls being nominated for the "All American Dance Team." Meaghan, Stacy, and Christie were ultimately selected for the team, with Christie taking the top "All American Dancer" for the entire camp. Dani won an additional individual ribbon for showmanship, Christie won the "Top Gun Kick" award, Alison won the "Top Gun Leaps and Turns" award, and Meaghan took the "Top Gun Hip Hop" award, meaning that all three Top Gun awards went to Kings dancers!
Finally, only two dancers from all teams at camp were asked to apply to be NDA instructors next summer. These were also our girls - Christie and Meaghan! Unfortunately, they are my youngest seniors and will not be 18 in time to travel next summer as required by the company. :(
More important than all the awards, the girls are going to make great leaders for our teams. We learned some terriffic choreography and are ready to get started on our year together!
